California City     New statistics show California City as the 12th fastest growing city in California in 2006 and the population has swelled to 13,123!  And we don't even have the Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken up and running yet!  With 206 square miles of desert, in terms of land size California City is the 3rd largest city in the state. An incorporated City for about 40 years, California City has it's own Police Department, a small airport with skydiving or glider flights, an 18-hole Championship golf course plus a par-3 course, Central Park with lake and fishing, and is considered one of the most popular riding areas for off-road vehicle enthusiasts.

California City is about 90 miles north of Los Angeles, 70 miles east of Bakersfield and a 40 minute drive to Lancaster and Palmdale in the Antelope Valley. United Airlines has begun daily flights from the Palmdale Airport to San Francisco International!  Las Vegas is less than 3 hours and Ventura and the Pacific Ocean are an easy 2-hour non-stressful drive.

Edwards Air Force Base, NASA's test facility, the Mojave SpacePort and Corrections Corporation of America are all primary employers. American Honda Motors and Hyundai Kia Motors both have huge test tracks and proving grounds in California City. The Sears outlet store and Quizno's opened in April, Leo's Mexican Restaurant opened in May,  AltaOne Credit Union opened their gorgeous new business center in August and Wimpy's Diner started serving delicious hamburgers and JoJo Fries in September!  "I will gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today!"  The MicroTel Inn and Suites is competing for the Guiness Book of Records distinction for "Longest Hotel Construction Project" and should be complete in October, two new shopping centers are under construction, and Taco Bell and KFC have purchased land and plan to open this year. Efforts are underway to attract a new state university to the area near the Hyundai Kia automotive test center!

McDonalds, Rite-Aid, Napa Auto Parts, Ace Hardware, Postal Annex, Pizza Palace and Subway have been here for years and welcome new homeowners. 1,200 new building permits have been issued in the last 2 years and builders offer a new home on a quarter-acre parcel for less than $150,000!  WOW!!

TWO NEW SCHOOLS!!  The new Hacienda Middle School and the California City High School opened their doors to students in August of 2007.  The new EXIT 73 and Highway 14 freeway interchange is completed, the bridge is open, and we have a shiny new gateway to California City. Oh-what-a-difference for motorists who no longer have to travel at 35 miles per hour weaving through a maze of construction activity. The five-year CalTrans project has been finished ahead of schedule!

In May of 2007 I was appointed as a Commissioner to the Planning Commission so I'll be involved in the decisions for future projects.  In September, I became a Director and Treasurer for the California City Chamber of Commerce. Call or eMail me if you have questions about California City or need additional information.  I'm excited about watching the growth of California City over the next few years. Imagine owning a new home in California City about 90 miles from Los Angeles or the ocean for about the price of a similar home in Florida or Texas!  For more information about the City, visit http://CaliforniaCity-ca.us or www.CaliforniaCity.com .

UPCOMING EVENTS:  Saturday, December 1st will be the Holiday Christmas Tree lighting at the entrance to the City Hall in California City, California.  See you there!!
